For visual artist Awoiska van der Molen (1972), analogue photography is the primary medium. Her black and white photos are abstract representations of anonymized landscapes, stemming from her desire to return to where we come from: untouched nature.

For her collaboration with Unseen, Van der Molen worked with digital images for the first time. The stills are fragments from short video recordings she made while shooting analogue projects. As part of our first chapter, STLLNSS, these images were released as a special edition. Those who acquired a print also received the moving image as an NFT (Non-Fungible Token).

Van der Molen filmed "Drenthe Train" while traveling through Drenthe by train. She was invited to create work in the vast peat landscape for the Into Nature Biennale. The area is associated with the Witte Wieven (the spirits of "wise women" in Dutch mythology, ed.), bog bodies and sagas and traditions. Van der Molen's ancestors can be traced back to the 1700s in this formerly extensive peat area: "I thought, “Wow, I'm standing here on my own roots.” This added a new dimension during the process of photographing. All those aspects that are not visible but can be felt – a kind of presence and absence of mind, reality, time, existence non-existence – inspired me to consider a transparent carrier. I wanted to translate the transience of these conditions."
